Repeat show of havoc in Mumbai this rainy season

Our growth rate is above 8 percent. But our financial capital is quaking from fears from havoc wrought by the rains. There is something seriously wrong about our development model.

The memories of last year’s thunder-rains have again started haunting Mumbaiites this year. Weather officials have given warning of heavy rains in next twenty-four hours in Maharastra. The monsoon has reached ten days before in this region. The state government officials are reluctant to say anything about the safety measures.

The drainage system, traffic management and the administration of local railways are working in the same condition as they were working last year. Last year’s promises made by the power-that-be amount to nothing.

Instead, the administration will do the one thing it is good at – pass the buck around.

Mumbaikers, be afraid. Be very, very afraid.
