In the midst of an impressive security detail, the body of drug kingpin Ignacio “Nacho” Coronel, co-capo of the Pacific cartel, killed by the Mexican Army last Thursday, and his nephew, Mario ël Gallo’Carrasco Coronel, who was killed by the Army on Friday, were released to family memebers and transported to a nearby funeral home.

The family requested support from state and municipal authorities to escort the bodies from the morgue to a funeral home on Bethlehem street for embalming and then to the Guadalajara airport where the bodies will be transported to their place of birth, Canelas, Durango, for funeral services.

Elements of Guadalajara’s elite police force Grupo Lobos in five police vehicles and three motorcycles to accompany the two hearses, an armoured Cadillac Escalade and a Chrysler 300C. According to official reports, the remains of both drug traffickers will be escorted to the airport where the family could seek support from other authorities for further transport and avoid any possible attacks.

It’s a sad day when state police begin providing personal security to fallen narco families, it seems almost to defeat the purpose. How many thousands of innocent families have been affected by these criminals? Where is their security detail? Where is OUR state security?
