Chef and author Andrew Schloss has collaborated with Canned Food Alliance to add a healthy dose to tinned fruits, veggies and salads, by replacing the unhealthy dressings in the can with pureed fruits and vegetables.
The chef claims to have achieved this healthy formulation by drastically reducing the amount of fats in his new line of ‘dressings’ called as ‘Dressed to the Nines‘. To quote Schloss:
To put these dressings in perspective, consider that two tablespoons of an average bottled vinaigrette contain 150 calories and 16 grams of fat. Our dressings range from 14 to 46 calories per two tablespoons with a range of 0 to 2.5 grams of fat. Now that’s an ideal choice for any health-conscious American looking to get one step closer to getting the recommended 4.5 cups of fruits and vegetables each day.
This dressing line meant for perking-up salads, extends itself to fulfill the gap between the dressing meant for tinned foods and an all-purpose dressing. Therefore, Schloss has extended its functionality to marinades, grills, pan sauces, sandwiches, spreads and wraps. Perspective wise, the shelf life of tinned foods cannot be forgotten if a food manufacturer swaps the dressing oils with fruit purees.
