Chess Pies do not have anything to do with playing chess, but of course it resembles closely to the Americanized form of English Cheese as the recipe adheres to the English lemon curd pie filling. The filling is cheese pie is usually a mixture of eggs, sugar, butter, and a small amount of flour, but it has its own versions with cornmeal, vinegar and other flavorings such as vanilla, lemon juice and chocolate. It is preferred that you have a commercial pie shell for this pie and then fill it with a batter of sugar, flour, eggs, buttermilk, butter, vanilla in 2:2:5:2/3:1/2 ratio, consecutively.
So see Chess Pie is just opposite to how you prepare Apple Pie, but playing chess and eating an apple ironically share opposite manners than to what they share in their respective pies.
