Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes (1787): World’s Most Expensive White Wine

winesRare wines are bound to be expensive, the recent purchase of a Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes (1787), proves that right. The white wine was purchased by a very old customer London based Antique Wine Company at US$100,000. The actual price of the vintage wine is $64,000, but it depends on the retailer on the price it charges.

Chateau d’Yquem comes from Sauternes, which is the sweetest wine in the world with a blend of 80 percent Semillon and 20 percent, Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are completely pressed and then matured for a long time in oak barrels. The color of 1787 vintage is deep amber due to the oxidation over the years. This time the wine expert will get a vast range of flavors as the wine has matured over 20 years.
