Kiwano is the name. A somewhat less appealing, strange looking, orange coloured fruit with spiky surface is entering the markets everywhere.
People have become more adventurous and want to try out new food for their taste buds. This horned melon (as it is generally being known) is gaining acceptance and are being used in up-market restaurants.
Also, Kiwano is finding favour from women seeking to feed healthful new flavors to their families.
Sales of the horned melon, native to southern and central Africa have risen from $570,061 in 2004 to $743,022 in 2006.
So, here to a great future for Kiwano.
