Amazon wants to be the largest online grocery store

qqw111Amazon might humbly call it as the addition of an online grocery store, but reports say that Amazon’s recent expansion into the domain of food products actually features a range of Gourmet and Grocery food products in different portion sizes. Seattlepi reports that Amazon is going to offer its customers a whopping 15,000 nonperishable items, with more than half items constituting organic products.

The featured categories in snacks, breakfast foods, boxed meals and side dishes, beverages, condiments and sauces, baking goods, organic foods and much more claim to give a solid competition to online food retailers like New York-based FreshDirect.com, Webvan.com and Peapod LLC. Tracy Ogden, spokesperson for Amazon.com Inc. states:

This is so natural for us. This is for the busy parents, suburban and urban, who want to load up on diapers and pasta.

Though it is just an expansion for Amazon, yet for the consumers it is one of the widest range of the trendiest, ethnic, low-calorie foods store in the world.

The most attractive marketing stunt used by Amazon for its online store is, ‘Amazon Prime’, free shopping programme for all those who order more than $25 of items. Amazon might not need many marketing efforts, but just the stock of food it has advertised in its online gourmet store.
