Ben and Jerry’s new flavor name leads to controversy

ben and jerryA recent report shows that Ben and Jerry had to apologize for their new ice cream flavor Black and Tan as the name of the flavor, beared the name of the British militia unit, who were recruited to motivate the Irish police in 1920, but ironically made Ireland ‘hell’ for the Irish people. The name comes from the two toned color of the uniforms they wore, but this in no way proves that guys at Ben and Jerry intended terrorizing through an acquired identity…it might just be the color of the ice cream. In fact it was, with stout ice cream, topped with chocolate ice cream. Stout being the famous black beer in Ireland and chocolate being brown, the Company just brought in the color of skin and not the name of a militia unit.

To justify this Ben & Jerry’s spokesman went on to say that:

Any reference on our part to the British Army unit was absolutely unintentional and no ill-will was ever intended. Ben & Jerry’s was built on the philosophies of peace and love.

The simple flavors of food products, when brought under controversy lead to a negative impact on the consumers, therefore the manufacturers should not dig their own graves by picking up such controversial names.
