Food and Drug Administration has reportedly relaxed its rules attached to the labeling of irradiated foods and has proposed converging the rules of radiation of foods with the labeling rules of pasteurization to be later labeled as ‘pasteurized’.

Facts provided claims that radiation apart from killing bacteria, might also affect the sensory properties of food items. Therefore, the FDA claims that using alternative terms for irradiation would clearly specify the need for radiation of certain products.

Doubtless swapping the process of radiation on the label, with pasteurization and other bacteria cleaning methods might ward-off the likely negative impact from the minds of the consumers, yet it in no way create a healthy picture about the food item.

It is more practical to scrap the process of radiation as far as possible and try out other cleaning and heating methods to kill bacteria, which would not only make labeling of food products easier, but also assure consumers of hygienic food packed in the healthiest way.
