Food contamination goes on a high, diverts consumers from ‘packaged foods’ to ‘fresh produce’

It seems that more number of packaged food products are being recalled since the last half of 2006, which has projected with even more force with the latest reported recall of ‘Oscar Mayer/Louis Rich chicken breast strips with rib meat, grilled, fully cooked, ready to eat’. Facts provide that USDA recalled 50,000 pounds of chicken breast packages labeled p-19676, on Tuesday morning.

This is yet another case of neglect by parent company Kraft foods followed by the mislabeling of its Capri Sun juice as ‘All Natural’. Oscar Meyer’s chicken breasts is not the only product infected with listeriosis is meningitis, but Food Consumer reports of botulism contamination, in the past two weeks, in Dole Fresh Fruit’s cantaloupes and Earth’s Best Organic’s baby foods.

There is apparently no full-stop to the negligence of the food manufacturers and the USDA in the direction of food safety. Packaged foods have become more scandalous a health investment than ever for the consumers and at the outset consumers are left with the only option of switching over to the consumption of fresh and reliable produce.

Consumers might be better-off if they select their own vegetables and meats from the farmer’s markets, clean the foodstuffs and cook them at home, rather than risk their health, eating dubious foods packed for consumer convenience.

Needless to say, food industry with all its healthy reproduction of foodstuffs in pre-cooked or pre-cut form, has only become more careless piling-up for consumer distrust and sinking profits.
