HiFi Oats: Extra fiber punch to beat down cholestrol levels

oatmealHiFi developed by Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists and North Dakota State University (NDSU). This oats packs in 50 percent excess of beta-glucan, which is a fiber-type complex sugar (polysaccharide) derived from the cell wall of baker’s yeast. This extra of beta-glucan will lower cholesterol levels in the body and improve the immune system of the body. HiFi or high fiber oats is a new spring oat variety, specially cultivated for the extra quantity of beta-glucan.

The benefit to the food manufacturers as well as the consumers is that oats will be able to deliver extra punch in small quantities…remember the trend small is beautiful. More than anything else it will aid in agronomic benefits as this new variety is disease resistant.
