Complexity Level: Moderate
Time Required: 15 to 20 minutes
Estimated Cost: 10$ to 15$
Resources Required
- Mature aloe vera plant
- Paring Knife
- Blender
- Peeler
- Orange or grape fruit juice or water
- Air tight containers
- Mint leaves (optional)
- Lemon (optional)
Instructions
1. Cut the Plant: The first step is to cut the aloe vera plant. While cutting leaf from the plant, make sure you do it leaving an inch of the plant i.e. where the white part shows. The quantity of aloe vera gel needed to make juice depends on the quantity of juice you want. For the juice of about a glass, use 2 tablespoons of inner gel.
2. Clean the leaf: If you notice the leaf of an aloe vera plant has thorny sides. This is the part that you will have to cut out from the leaf. Vertically cut a clean, not much wider part of the leaf.
3. Peel the aloe vera: The aloe vera leaf has to be peeled now. Do it carefully, preferably with a peeler, because if a thicker part is cut, you will end up losing the inner gel and if a thinner part is cut off then you might end up not removing the skin properly. Do it with a sharp knife starting first from the upper side, then the lower side of the leaf.
4. Wash the leaf well: Now, what you are left with after peeling is the inner gel. It’s almost transparent and extremely slippery so watch out while washing it in running water. The best way is to put it in a vessel and wash it.
5. Grind the contents: Now grind the contents that are well washed and cleaned. Put them in the grinder or blender and mix water in it. Make sure you grind only the gel and thereâs no rind (skin) left on it. After grinding well, you get a healthy juice of aloe vera.
Quick Tips
1. If you want to store the leaves of aloe vera that you have already cut for future use, then store it upright in a plastic bag or any air tight container. Make sure the wider part of the leaf is at the bottom so that the bitterness drains away and it is ready for the next use.
2. Also try and use your stored leaves within 3 to 4 days to keep their nutrients intact.
