Complexity level: Easy

Estimated cost: $ 2 for 2 servings

Resources required:

  1. Freshly grounded coffee beans or instant coffee mix
  2. Drinking chocolate or chocolate syrup
  3. Sugar
  4. Ice (if you want cold coffee)
  5. Whipped cream (for topping and to add flavor)
  6. Chocolate chips (optional)
  7. Milk
  8. A small pan

Instructions:

1. Brew a shot of espresso:

Brew a shot of espresso in an espresso machine. If you do not have one, double brew your regular coffee or use an instant espresso mix. In this case, you just need to add the espresso mix to a cup of hot water while stirring it well.

2. Heat the milk:

The temperature of the milk is important as it ensures the right amount of frothing or foaming. Fill the pitcher with milk and place a thermometer in it. Steam the milk till the temperature is about 155 degrees F or 70 degrees C. This temperature tends to rise another 5 degrees as the milk settles down. The steam wand should be inserted diagonally to let the formation of the foam.

3. Add chocolate and espresso:

Add chocolate powder or chocolate syrup to the milk and blend it well. Combine the heated chocolate mix and a shot of espresso to get your perfect Café Mocha. Start by pouring shot of espresso in the coffee mug. Pour steamed milk over the espresso while constantly stirring to get the right foam. The froth smoothly blends with the espresso. When pouring, you may want to use the spoon to regulate the flow of the foam. Ensure that no foam enters the drink until you are about 3 mm from the brim. By doing so you get a nice brown foamy top with a small white foam in the center.

4. Serve as desired:

Serve your Mocha with whipped cream, a scoop of ice cream, or chocolate chips.
