Cross Dressing. I was amazed to see Rituporno Ghosh in the Bengali flick, Ar Ekti Premer Golpo,(Just another Love Story) the infinite grace with he portrays the “third sex” as he prefers to call himself and also Chapal Bhaduri, the great actor, around which the story revolves in the flick.
Fashionable, as he is, in all aspects of life, Ritu Da, quite keeps in mind the Fashion quotient while he dresses up for this film. He plays a Director of a film on Chapal Bhaduri, the bright star of the Jatra of the yester years. He actually plays a gay Director much in love with his Cinematographer Basu, who is bisexual. I am not here to give away the story to you for it is a Must-watch. Anyway, I will let you see the fashion aspect of his dressing up, rather bizarre to others but he looks wonderfully cool with a hairstyle that suits him wonderfully and also when he goes bald he does not look bad. He works on a film on Chapal Bhaduri , who in his heydeys acted in female roles when the Jatra world had no females around and he too was wonderfully eloquent the way he presented ladies fashion of the times. It is said, fashion of the past comes back and it is always a retouching and remaking of fashion that goes on. Never once does Ritu playing young Chapal Da or Abhiroop Sen, the Director also played by Ritu Da, look out of place in the film.
On a final note, Rituporno would put any lady to shame with his feminine nuances. It is understandable how in his films the females are etched out so beautifully. Emotions, he has portrayed with immense dexterity of a true-blooded actor. The stylish air he carries all through the film keeps us wondering about his multifaceted genius. He is so much comfortable with himself the way he is that we dare not see him change.
It is the way of thinking that actually matters.
That’s what the film does.
It makes us think, differently. We accept the fashion, cross dressing, hairstyle, baldness et all.
