Jennifer Lopez, the popular American singer-turned-actress, has recently charged a fee, as high as $10 million, for performing in front of a group of criminals. The entertainer has been highly criticized by a well-known human rights organization of U.S. for her activity, says a report.
A performance before gangsters
According to American ‘Human Rights Foundation’ (HRF), Ms Lopez has claimed a lucrative amount of 10 million dollars or 6.6 million British pounds for amusing some of the ‘worst thugs of the world’. It is the first time that the 43-year old entertainer is accused for serenading offenders or tyrants, and probably one of the most embarrassing complaints for her.
The incident took place last month when Lopez agreed to perform at the birthday party of Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, a notorious crook of Turkmenistan. Being one of the most exploitive nations on the earth, Turkmenistan has earned much bad reputation. When the rest of the world has progressed a lot, the government of this Asian country is still using ‘imprisonment’ as a weapon for political vengeance.
HRF Unveils More about Lopez’s Performance
Human Rights Foundation (HRF) has revealed that Ms Lopez had given a number of other performances last year, and quite a few of them were intended for certain debatable characters of the society.
Two years ago, she sang in the marriage ceremony of the son of Mr. Azam Aslanov, the corrupt industrialist of Uzbekistan. Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen autocrat, was also present among the guests of the function and the entertainer was paid around $1 million for her performance.
Lopez was also offered huge money for performing at the birthday party of Alexander Yelkin, the well-known Russian civil servant. But as he got arrested right after the booking, the event was called off.
The President of HRF, Mr. Thor Halvorssen said that the claim of Lopez that she was not aware of the allegations against Berdymukhamedov should not be considered as she already has records of entertaining some other thugs as well as their cronies in past. It is highly misleading for the common people, he added.
Though Mark Young, the publicist of Ms Lopez, has declared that the singer had no idea about the human rights issues prior to attending the function or she would not have agreed to perform. However, it is not stopping the Human Rights Foundation as well as other critics from condemning her deeds.
