KFC rebuffs Trans fat charges, admits non-availability of Trans-fat free oils

kfc1The New York Times reports about the litigation against KFC by Center for Science in the Public Interest on account of the usage of partially hydrogenated oil by the former.

In response to the litigation, KFC denies to have added any harmful Trans fats to its fried chicken or for that matter any readymade food that it sells to the consumers.

To quote KFC:

We provide a variety of menu choices and provide nutrition information, including trans-fat values, on our Web site and in our restaurants so consumers can make informed choices before they purchase our products. We have been reviewing alternative oil options, but there are a number of factors to consider including maintaining KFC’s unique taste and flavor of Colonel Sanders’ Original Recipe.

Previous reports have shown fast food chain Wendy has already switched over to Trans fat free oils. Therefore, there is no way KFC can talk about the non-availability of a flavor and texture procuring alternative oil, especially after the strict rules made by FDA to deliver trans fat free menu to its consumers.

However, the fact that consumers are provided with nutritional labels cannot be neglected.
