Nutrient value of salad reaffirmed, junk foodies turn a deaf ear

Study conducted by Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and UCLA School of Public Health reported that eating a bowl of salad everyday is an easy way to enhance the nutritional intake of an individual.

Facts provided by the study on 17,000 adult men and women, showed that those on a daily diet of salads with a healthy dressing intake a good dose of vitamins, fibers, necessary fats from lycopene and alpha- and beta-carotene and antioxidants. However, the study also revealed that this nutritional level was found only in 50 percent of the Americans, where the verdict of a junk food diet was given for the rest of the US population.

This study is not new, but the facts shown in this study are established before, by the likes of Atkins diets, FDA, American Heart Association, 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and other nutritional advocates.

At the outset of a number of researches on vegetables, it should be clear to the dieters and diners that a combination of an array of colorful vegetables, fish, legumes and white meat gives a balanced diet, and the healthiest combination cannot be better found than in a bowl of salad. The fact remains without this study, but it is unfortunate that American diners are indifferent to these facts in spite of innumerable confirmations through such researches.
