One More Legendary Singer of the 80’s Rahim Mehryar Passed Away

One of the finest singers of the 1980’s, known as the golden age for Afghani Music, Rahim Mehryar passed away in his home in Germany on Wednesday June 23, 2010 (yesterday).

Rahim Mehryar (Persian: رحيم مهریار) was a famous singer from Afghanistan. He and his wife singer Parasto, were counted as one of the most successful musical duos in the late 1980s that dominated the pop music scene in Afghanistan.

Rahim Mehrayar was the contemporary of the legendary singers like the legendary Ghazal singer Ustad Muhammad Hussain Sarahang, Ahmad Zahir, Zaland, Xhilla, Hafizullah Khial, Hangama and Ahmad Wali, Naghma, Mangal, Zahir Huwaida, Shad Kaam and others.

Rahim Mehryar enjoyed quite a big fan following among Afghans across the globe. His last appearance was in an award ceremony where he sang the South Asian Poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s poem “Man Banda-e-Azadam Ishq ast Imam-e-man”.

His untimely death has left his fans across the globe in mourning. His beautiful voice recorded in the form of his songs will always be admired as a great contribution on his part to Afghan Music industry.
