Stir-fried Banana Flower

bnana flowerIn East India our moms make the best use of the Banana Flowers. Banana Flowers are the purple color pods, resembling that of a corn cob. Banana flowers are made by removing the purple covering and plucking out the tender flowers from inside. These flowers are cream in color and they are prepared by removing the black stem inside the flowers. The flowers are then chopped and soaked in turmeric water to remove the bitterness.

They are chopped into fine pieces, then in a wok chopped onions, ginger-cumin-green chili paste, red chili powder are fried properly and the banana flowers are added along with salt and cinnamon powder. The banana flowers are cooked over slow fire until tender and are served with rice and fish,.
