Tangy Spinach-lentil stew aka Dal Palak

dal palakSummer Foods includes lots of green leafy vegetables and pulses in the daily diet and today I want to share with you the recipe of my favorite spinach stew. The recipe is as follows:

Ingredients

Spinach
Yellow Gram
Green Chilies
Tamarind Water
Turmeric Powder
Mustard Seeds
Fennel Seeds
Fenugreek Seeds
Cumin Seeds
Salt
Mustard Oil
Dried Red Chilies

Method

1. In a cooker heat water and boil spinach leaves, yellow gram, salt, green chilies and turmeric powder.

2. After the leaves and gram is cooked, set it aside.

3. In the same cooker heat oil, all the seeds and dried red chilies. As they start spluttering add the spinach and yellow gram mixture.

4. Add tamarind water and simmer the stew for 10 minutes. Serve with boiled rice and vegetables.

Note:- You can replace tamarind water with dry mango powder to bring the tangy taste.
