I love old vintage songs.Recently, saw the video of song “Tak Tak Dhum Dhum” from ” Do Aankhen Barah Haath “(1957).The song is written by Bharat Vyas and composed by Vasant Desai.Look at the rhythm generated at the end of the song. The modern mechanical beats stand nowhere in comparison to haunting tunes composed by them.Vasant Desai has also given memorable music in “Goonj Uthi Shahnai”.Remember “Jeevan Me Piya Tera Saath Rahe”.Another famous song composed is “Amuba Ki Daali Pe Bole Re Koyalia”.I must say something about Bharat Vyaas. He was famous in film industry for composing lyrics in “shuddha hindi”(pure Hindi).Listen to “Tu Chupi Hai Kaha” from ‘Navrang’ and you will then realize what a poetic genius he really was.

The film has two other memorable songs. One is “saiyya jhootoh ka bada sartaaj nikla” and other is evergreen bhajan”Aye Maalik Tere Bande Hum” ..Both the songs at some point of time in a day are on my lips:-)).

The songs are picturized on Sandhya. My one of the other favourites is also picturized on her:’Aadha Hai Chandrama Raat Aadhi’ from Navrang. I should not miss the opportunity to state that earlier actresses like Sandhya,Nargis,Meena and Nutan,to name a few, reflected the essence of womanhood.See the expressions of Sandhya as she performs on this song.I don’t know whether likes of Aish,Mallika and Bipaasha will ever be able to display this sort of emotions if they are placed in one such song ?Why the women of modern era have distanced themselves away from the attributes that defined womanhood ? Any answers ?
