Bollywood, one of the biggest production centers in the world completed 100 years of existence in 2013. 2013 also proved to be the year when some of the highest grossing films of all time were produced. Out of the top five highest grossing films, some of the biggest production houses of Bollywood made three in 2013. The following list gives a glimpse of top five highest grossing films of Bollywood.
Dhoom 3
Dhoom 3, a film directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra is at the top with a worldwide gross of INR 533.35 crore ($85 million). It is the third installment of Dhoom series. Dhoom and Dhoom 2 were also a big hit in terms of Box-office revenue. Aamir Khan is the leading actor in the film opposite Katrina Kaif and the other two actors Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra are playing their roles as cops. The film was released on 20 December 2013 and was the most expensive film of all times with a budget of INR1.50 billion ($24 million).
Chennai Express
Chennai Express, a romantic action film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment is second to top of the list. With a total business of INR422 crore ($68 million) it became one of the most popular films of all time. The film was also a musical hit with all the famous songs like Chennai Express, Titli, Lungi Dance, etc. The film featured Shahrukh Khan as lead actor opposite Deepika Padukone. It was released on 8 August 2013 and was produced with a budget of INR750 million ($12 Million).
Krrish 3
Krrish 3 also collected one of the highest amounts of all times. It was produced and directed by a renowned Bollywood personality Rakesh Roshan and was released on 1 November 2013. In the leading roles are famous stars Hrithik Roshan, Vivek Oberoi, Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut. The film’s worldwide gross was INR420 crore ($67 million) and it was produced on a budget of INR1.15 billion ($18 million). Krrish 3 is the third movie in the Krissh series after Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish.
3 Idiots
3 Idiots, a film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra was a comedy drama film based on a novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. With a total business of INR392 crore ($63 million) it became one of the highest grossing films of all times. It was released on 25 December 2009 and was produced with a budget of INR401 Crore ($64 million). The lead actors were Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, R. Madhavan and Boman Irani.
Ek Tha Tiger
Ek Tha Tiger is an action film directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra. The films worldwide gross was INR310 crore ($50 million) and it was produced on a budget of INR75 crore ($12 million). It was released on 15 August 2012 under Yash Raj Films Banner. The lead actors were Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
