Queuing up at Mcdonalds or Bembos to buy their favorite succulent burgers is what many people like to do. Despite the not-so-healthy status assigned to a burger, the burger craze continues among people of all ages and nationalities.

A burger can contain anything from a patty (made from ground beef or chicken or even vegetables), cheese, mustard, lettuce, onions, eggs or tomatoes among the countless food elements that go into a sliced bun to make a luscious burger. Frying, broiling, or grilling the meat of choice with the desired amount of fat is how the patty is prepared. So the meat of choice and the amount of fat that goes into the burger makes it a big no-no for the health pundits.

Waitrose, a supermarket chain plans to give burger lovers a little respite from their guilt. It plans to soon sell burgers that contain buffalo meat instead of beef and chicken. The buffalo burgers known as Laverstoke Park Farm burgers that come from the Laverstoke Park Farm, which is a 2,500-acre farm in Hampshire are currently sold for 90p at farmers’ markets. Waitrose already sells milk that comes from the farm and it now plans to launch the burgers in 23 of its London and South-East stores.

So what so special about preparing burgers with buffalo meat instead of chicken or beef? It is said that buffalo meat is healthier as compared to beef and chicken because it is leaner and has low cholesterol content. Buffalo meat is even well-liked by many chefs owing to its soft texture and subtle gamey flavor. Seems like good news for burger fans doesn’t it?

How well these buffalo burgers go down with burger lovers remains to be seen but if they become popular, then these will definitely go a long way as people will continue to indulge in burgers as long as they live.
