100 Crore club a new trend in Bollywood

Bollywood has always been home to trends, controversies and innovative yardsticks. While Bollywood has surely seen a lot of change in the last 100 years of its operation, the world has therefore seen an evolved film industry, which is steadily growing in terms of its content and film making techniques.

Anyone who watches Bollywood will tell you that the recent trend in films are subjects which are general and are nothing big but which are made into a film nonetheless. There is obviously the plethora of remakes. The industry has always known to be a pirate who loots scores of elements from its Western and sometimes its Asian counterparts.

However, there has been a recent surge of movies, which have once again seen the rise of women centric films in Bollywood. Some powerful industry campaigns are of course exploiting the genre of socially explicit material on screen to no extent. However, admittedly, what defines the same in present times is another well-versed question that I raise.

The Yardstick for Success

In both Bollywood and politics, money has always had a big say and why not? The amount of revenue generated by the film industry has single handedly contributed to the over-all development of a nation and a state in particular.

Nevertheless, the newest trend of being in the film industry is counted by whether an artist belongs to the 100 crore club or not. This in a novel yardstick, which is being used to judge how successful the value of the artist is, and how much that has helped their particular films to prosper.

Industry experts have in a way declared that an artist who has been in the film industry for two decades or more are sure to understand how to deliver such movies  in order to belong to the club.

However, the same seems to be working mostly for the powerful male population of the film industry. A certain curvy lady of Bollywood has broken this particular theory by being in the industry not for not even a decade and breaking in the 100 crore club with some of the biggest blockbusters of the last financial year of Bollywood.

What really goes into it All

However, you are mistaken if you think that the sole carrier of the films and actors in the 100 crore club lies with only the artists. The new business strategies of the film industry have never been as successful as it is at present.

Bollywood has always been known for its formulae. If at one point of time it was formulae movies that worked, now what work are the formulae of business of promotions by the corporate. The simple recipe is this; choose a unique subject, no matter if there is not one present either, dunk it in lots of hypes, whether justified or not, get some actor to do some stunt or the other, let it brew under the wrath of a political party or the moral police or the censor board and you have just successfully derived the equation for entry to the 100 crore club.

Most of the times getting much loved mainstream artists to perform will work in your favor as well. In a way, this equation has been adopted by many mainstream actors who might be forty but still end up doing roles of 21-year-old college students.

See, the basic recipe will always be the same; the variables however are bound to be different.  Of course, performing only in one film will never give the artist entry to the 100 crore club of Bollywood. It does take some time, but yes a little spice and some intoxicant always works.
