Pork tailored to be leaner than chicken

With barbecue season at its peak, various types of meats promote themselves. To take matters seriously there are attached health claims as the one recently which reports that pork meat is leaner than the leanest of skinless chicken breasts.

This analysis comes straight from the big bosses at USDA, who claim that pork tenderloin contains only 2.98 grams of fat per 3-ounce serving, compared to 3.03 grams of fat in a 3-ounce serving of skinless chicken breast. Reports say that pork has met the standards of ‘extra lean‘ status.

To make matters clear this has not been the status of fat content in pigs earlier. The pigs were reported to be on a diet, which made them 16 percent leaner than what they were 15 years ago, with a drop in saturated fat by 27 percent. This dropped in fats is claimed to have accompanied an increase in vitamin B6 and niacin.

The main motive of the research was not to make a comparison or to present a new study but was to encourage dieters to eat pork, which scientists say has finally been tailored to suit the growing consumer demands and health assertions.
