Bobby Gillespie, Primal Scream frontman, played hero at the recent NME Awards nite when he interfered in the backstage bust-up between his best pal Kate Moss and her boyfriend Pete Doherty, resulting in an early exit for the super couple.
It all started when Babyshambles star Pete was caught redhanded by the security for trying to smuggle a spoon into the loos at Hammersmith Palais. Security guards suspected that perhaps Pete wasn’t exactly taking the spoon into the bogs to finish his dessert.
This prompted Kate to take Pete aside and issue him a no-nonsense warning, and thus started a vicious backstage drama between the couple.
At this point Bobby Gillespie, who was to due to recieve the Godlike Genius Award for Primal Scream through Kate, rushed to the scene and asked Kate to take him home and not to worry about her award-presenting duties.
A source close to Pete Doherty said:
Bobby made it clear that he was more worried about Kate and just wanted Pete out of there. He knows he isn’t good for her and wherever he goes, trouble follows. It was supposed to be a big night for Primal Scream and Kate, but he knew for everyone’s sake that Pete should just leave.
Thus Kate and Pete slipped out a side entrance before the ceremony finished, leaving former Clash star Mick Jones to stand in to present the award.
Bobby Gillespie is very close to the 33-year-old supermodel and is not much happy with her association with the Babyshambles star. Despite his disapproval for Pete, Bobby has vowed to be present at the couples wedding which could be this summer.
Bobby Gillespie said:
Trust me, when they do it I’ll be there. She’s only just asked me to come to the wedding. They haven’t tied the knot yet, so I’m on call whenever they want me. At the drop of a hat I’ll be there, even if it means cancelling a festival gig in summer.
Kate did get highlighted at the NME Awards, but for the wrong cause, courtesy Pete Doherty.
