Catherine Zeta-Jones weaves her magic once again in the Hollywood supernatural romantic thriller, Death Defying Acts. She stars opposite former Neighbors actor, Guy Pearce, who portrays Harry Houdini, the famous Hungarian-American magician, stunt performer and escapologist.

Harry Houdini is generally regarded as the greatest ever escapologist. Houdini was extremely popular in Europe, and was also known as the ‘The Handcuff King.’

In the US, Houdini was extremely successful from 1907 and throughout the 1910s, and when his popularity started waning, he started performing death defying acts like escaping from locked water-filled milk can and Chinese water torture cell.

In the movie Death Defying Acts, Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Mary McGarvie, a belly-dancing girl who uses her feminine charms to trap Houdini. Director Gillian Armstrong has certainly made a wise choice in selecting the Academy-award wining Welsh actress for this role. After all, there are not too many actresses in Hollywood who are not only great to look at, but are equally good in singing and dancing too.

If you are keen to see this 1920s biopic of Harry Houdini, be sure to do so when it releases soon in early 2008.
