Heath Ledger’s haunting last portrait

Made by Australian artist Vincent Fantauzzo, a haunting portrait of the deceased actor heath Ledger is up for the prestigious Archibald Prize for portraiture. The painting resulted as an intense collaboration between the painter and the 28-year old star who sat for a revealing portrait session just weeks before his tragic demise. The painter said the image

was an idea we discussed together and came up with??? it was about how we all have different consciences and voices in our head, telling us what to do and how to react. They???re not good or bad, they???re just voices that we hear, telling us how to behave. That???s what the other figures are in the painting.

The painter also remembered Ledger???s professional attitude during the session, with the actor almost in a meditation. The actor sat for a few hour-plus sessions and Vincent finished off the painting after that. Heath never got to see the finished portrait.
