Just when I thought I couldn’t be any more shocked by some random news article, something comes along that horrifies me to the depths of my being. Something so disturbing that I wonder if there is any hope for humanity when so many of our children are rotten to the core. What does that bode for the next generation, when the children and teens of today seem to lack any moral compass?
In just this past month there have been two stories about 11 year-old-girls who were gang raped by a bunch of thugs. And not just teens, there were adult males who participated in what has to be one of the worst kinds of violations that can happen to a person: forced sexual intercourse. Although the two scenarios were quite different, the fact that an 11 year-old was involved is absolutely shocking. One girl from a small town in California, the other from a small town in Texas.
What makes the rape of the Moreno Valley, CA girl even more horrendous, is the fact that, on March 10, the pre-teen was persuaded by an older female acquaintance to accompany her to a local park, where she was then lured into the bathroom and raped by 7 boys over 14 years of age. All the boys including 19-year-old Michael Sykes have been arrested, including the girl who tricked the 11-year-old into leaving the shopping mall where she had been hanging out. According to police officials, it was a gang-related attack and it appears “they were looking for a victim.”
The Texas case is equally appalling. The 11-year-old in this case was gang raped in November 2010 by 18 boys and men ranging from their teens to late 20s, and it was all videotaped on someone’s cell phone. It wasn’t until the video started making the rounds in school that a fellow classmate alerted a teacher who reported it to the authorities who then approached the family. It was only then they discovered that the young girl had been gang raped several other times last year. What has the small Texas town divided is the fact that the precocious 11-year-old apparently dressed provocatively, donning heavy makeup and some believe the rape was her fault, and support the rapists who have been arrested and charged.
What amazes me is that there are actually people defending the rapists. Regardless of whether she dressed inappropriately for an 11-year-old (and I fault the parents for that!), or the fact that she supposedly lied about her age, I sincerely doubt she consented to having sex with 18 males at one time. And the older males (some of whom had rap sheets) certainly must have known she was underage.
What happened to 11-year-old girls playing with dolls? And where were the parents of the Texas girl during all of this?
I hate to see where the world is headed with children and adults who lack morals and a conscience.
