After struggling for long with bone cancer Malian Blues singer, Ali Farka Toure died while sleeping at his home yesterday. He will be buried in his village Niafunke, where he was the mayor.
Guitarist and Singer, Ali was West Africa’s most internationally successful music star who claimed several honors for his album Talking Timbuktu in 1994 which was recorded with another guitarist Ry Cooder.
World Circuit, the organization who produced his albums said that he was an exceptional musician who gave new dimensions to the traditional music of his native land and reached out to the international audience with his new style popular as desert blues.
Ali Farka Toure won his second Grammy recently for his album In the Heart of the Moon.
