Finally after months of bickering and a bitter public dispute over their divorce, Sir Paul McCartney has agreed to pay his soon-to-be ex-wife Heather Mills £55million in divorce settlement.

The amount will be paid in a lump sum of £20million and a further £2.5million a year for the next 14 years-till their daughter Beatrice turns 18. A substantial amount of the sum is understood to be set aside for providing round-the-clock security for Mills who has claimed to have received ???death threats.???

The couple???s daughter, Beatrice is to live with her mother but Sir Paul will have equal visitation rights with both the parents having to spend alternate weekends with the child along with weekly hand-overs. Mills has also agreed not to seek to live abroad for the next five years at least quenching any hopes of her reviving her career as a media personality in the States.

Though much of Sir Paul???s property including homes in North London, Sussex, Scotland, New York and Los Angeles remains his, Mills has been successful in getting him to pay an outstanding legal bill of over £2million for the services of her former lawyers Mishcon de Reya.

The settlement exceeds the UK record surpassing the £48million paid by businessman John Charman to his former wife. However the sum represents only a meager 7 percent of the former Beatle???s mammoth £825million fortune.

The couple still has another 13 weeks under the two-year separation period but both parties seem keen to have it finalized by next week.
