Angelina Jolie attends 18th Annual Courage In Journalism Awards

Angelina Jolie is one of the best known and highly paid Hollywood actress and a former fashion model too. But most often she is talked about her off-screen life. She is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency and she has promoted humanitarian causes throughout the world. She has personally visited a lot of refugee camps to analyze the situation and conditions there.

The 18th Annual Courage in Journalism awards of The International Women’s Media Foundation was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel, in Beverly Hills. Angelina Jolie, always interested in real life heroism, arrived there for the function. She, as a woman herself is always concerned with the organizations working to uplift the position of women in the world.

IWMF’s Courage in Journalism Awards created in 1990, honor those women journalist who have shown extraordinary courage while reporting in dangerous and adverse situations. The woman journalist who is considered as a pioneer in women journalism and who has actually shown way to future women journalists was honored with The Lifetime Achievement Award. This year, in 2007, Peta Thornycroft of Zimbabwe has won this award.

IWMF believes in strengthening the role of women in the world of news and tries to work on the obstacles that women journalists face here while trying to make a place for them. IWMF organizes seminars and trains women journalists so that they can move up to leadership levels.
