Rahul Gandhi

Apparent heir of the Nehru Gandhi dynasty, his suave and youthful appeal won him a triumphant victory in 2004 which proved to be his ticket to a grand political career. His every move has been calculated and accessed. Having the genes of the great Indian leaders like India Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, this young gun is all determined to transform India to a world leader. He was the brain behind projects like Unique Identification Numeber and NREGA scheme that has successfully reached out to masses for their benefit. The current Chief Minister of Gujrat, his single status has attracted many followers as a part of allure of his sacrifice. Born to a middle class family, he was a member of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh since childhood, and also an active politician since early life. He is the longest serving CM of Gujrat and is known for leading a frugal lifestyle. He is considered a workaholic and introvert politician. A strategist, a charming orator and public figure, he can easily change from dhoti to business suit. Over the years of his services, he has considerably changed the political, religious, social and economic scenario of Gujrat.

Mayawati

Party: Bahujan Samaj Party

Age: 56 years

The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati heads the Bahujan Samaj Party. She emerged as an icon for India’s dalits who have been oppressed by the upper castes since centuries. Inspite of being born and brought up to a poor family, she has three degrees to her credit. She founded Bahujan Samaj party in 1984 and was elected in 1989 for the parliament from Bijnor. She attracted support from the members of all classes and won a majority in 2007 elections, that was the first such majority in Uttar Pradesh since 1991. Her resolution to change Uttar Pradesh to “Uttam Pradesh” has been appreciated all over.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Party: Bhartiya Janta Party

Age: 87 years

Prime minister for 3 times, he is till date, the only bachelor prime minister of India. He is a gifted orator and a poet. He spent four decades in parliament and gave a new dimension to the India foreign policy. He is the only parliamentarian elected from 4 different states at different time: Uttar Pradesh, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. The Advani- Vajpayee duo was successful in transforming India into a better country.

Mamata Banerjee

Party: Trinamool Congress

Age: 57 years

The 11th and current Chief Minister of West Bengal, she is the first woman to hold this office. She founded Trinamool Congress in 1997 and became its chairperson henceforth. Mamata also holds the record of being the first female railway minister to her credit in the year 2009. She has served twice as the Minister of Railways, Minister of Coal and Minister of state for Human Resource Development, Department of youth affairs, Sports and Women and Child Development in the cabinet of Indian Government.

Naveen Patnaik

Party: Biju Janata Dal

Age: 65 years

He is the current Chief Minister of Orissa and Chief of Biju Janata Dal, a religious political party of Orissa. He belongs to a sound political background, but is a writer and had for most part of his youth been away from both, Orissa and politics. His mild mannerism, stand against corruption and pro-poor policies have resulted in the development of Orissa, and voted him to power for three consecutive terms.

APJ Abdul Kalam

Party: Independent

Age: 80 years

Avul Pakir Janilabdeen Abdul Kalam, was the president of India from July 2002 to July 2007. He is a renowned aerospace engineer, professor and the first chancellor of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology. He is known as the “missile man” of India for his immense contribution to nuclear power of India. He was the first bachelor to occupy Rashtrapati Bhawan. He got Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in the year 1997, and was popularly known as the people’s president during his term.

Uma Bharti

Age: 52 Years

Political Party: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

This firebrand ‘Pro-Hindutva’ politician of Bharatiya Janata Party is another bachelorette who is yet to tie the nuptial knot. She is one of the best known faces of Ayodhya Movement and is well versed in Indian Epics. Once the poster girl of BJP, her political career crash landed after criticizing senior party leader Lal Krishna Advani. She was recently in news for playing the role of BJP’s ‘Mascot’ in UP Elections.

J Jayalalitha

Age: 64

Political Party: All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)

After setting the screen on fire for several years, this Southern star of yesteryear made a successful career in politics. Regarded as one of the most powerful lady of Indian politics, she is the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
