As a country, India has witnessed some of the most amazing crimes. Some of these crimes seemed downright copied from detective novels. Here is a look at some of the best laid crimes of India. Do remember that the article is not intended to promote any sort of criminal activity. It is written to give detailed information about how well these crimes were planned out and why it was difficult to catch the culprits behind these crimes.

Surat murder case

Year: 2011

Description: Amit Kapasiwala, a land broker, was gruesomely murdered in broad daylight. He had just finished his work in the local court and was walking back towards his car, when an unidentified person, with a Rambo knife, stabbed Amit in his stomach and slit his throat as well. The attacker fled the spot with the help of his friend who came to the spot, riding a bike. The attacker, later identified as Dipak Mikwana, was a contract killer from Bhavnagar. He was taken into custody by the police, but the main conspirator behind the murder is still not known. The reason behind the murder is considered to be a land dispute. The case still remains unsolved.

J Dey murder case

Year: 11-June- 2011

Description: Jyotirmoy Dey was an Indian crime and journalist editor of Mid Day and an expert in fishing out stories from the Mumbai underworld. The tragedy happened, when J Dey was going back from Ghatkopar after meeting his mother Bina Dey on his motorcycle. He was shot dead by four motorcycle-borne unidentified gunmen in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai. Police believe that the reason behind the attack might be related to his reporting on the oil mafia. Dey was also reporting about Chhota Rajan as well, which might be another cause as well. The case was taken over by CBI. After investigating, it was found that Satish Kalia carried out this attack on the behest of Chhota Rajan. Recently, Journalist Jigna Vora has been also targeted for her role in the J Dey murder case. The main culprits are still on the loose.

Byrraju Ramalinga Raju Scam

Year: 2009

Description: This is one of the biggest scams in India that shocked the corporate world and made the Satyam founder Byrraju Ramalinga Raju resign from his post as the chairman. Raju admitted the fact that he had inflated the account books. He failed to fill the “fictitious assets with real ones” through Maytas acquisition and that is when he confessed about the crime that he had committed. It was a 8000 Crore fraud that led to the future of both the employees and the company in the gallows. The company law board decided to appoint 10 new board of directors in a quest to improve the situation of the company. But the appointed directors were not able to do what they were supposed to. The members of Pricewaterhouse Coopers were also arrested for account fudging. Mahindra has now taken up 46% share in Satyam.

Charles Sobhraj

Year: 1976

Description: Hotchand Bhaonani Gurumukh Charles Sobhraj, also known as Charles Sobhraj, was a serial killer who targeted western tourist throughout the Southeast Asia. He had been Nicknamed the “Serpent” and the “Bikini killer” for being evasive and deceptive. He was taken into custody in India and was jailed from 1976 to 1997. Sobhraj, after his release moved on to Paris where he lived his life as a celebrity. He returned to Nepal and was sentenced to life imprisonment by the supreme court of Nepal on 30th July 2010. Sobhraj was widely considered to be a psychopath, but he was different from other serial killers as he committed murders to sustain an adventurous life. His attention seeking nature and confidence in his own intelligence are considered to be the reasons behind his return to a country where the police authorities were in search of him.

Arushi Talwar

Year: 2008

Description: This is one of the cases that still remains shrouded in mystery even after several investigations taking place. Fourteen-year-old Aarushi Talwar, a student of class 9th was found dead with her throat slit in her parents’ home in Jalvayu Vihar in Noida. Initially, the main suspect was considered to be Hemraj, the servant who was missing. However, the suspicion on Hemraj ended, when police found the dead body of Hemraj on the terrace. Dr. Rajesh Talwar, the father of Aarushi, was arrested by the police and he also confessed about committing the two murders, but later on changed his statement. Since then, both parents have been considered to be the key suspect in the twin murder case. The case still remains unsolved.

The Tandoor Murder Case

Year: 1995

The tandoor murder case even today is considered to be one of the most horrific murder cases that ever took place. Sushil Sharma, a congress youth leader killed his wife Naina Sahni. Sushil did not like Naina’s friendship with Matloob Karim. Sushil shot Naina and took her body to a restaurant called Bagiya where he tried to dispose off her body by putting it into the tandoor. The constables saw the smoke and both the manager of the restaurant and Sushil were arrested.

The Nithari Kand

Year: 2006

The Nithari Kand is one such case that people won’t forget till the end of their lives. Maninder Singh Pandher was the main culprit behind these murders along with his servant. They used to lure children at their Noida house and then used to sexually abuse these children and then later used to kill them up. They used to hide the body by burying them around their garden and allowing the bodies to get decomposed.
