Bollywood movies that rocked first quarter of 2014

The first quarter of 2014 has seen Bollywood’s 30 movies release. The first quarter of 2013 saw INR 530cr turnover at the box office, while this year, it has been around INR 475cr. The difference is in the fact that the super hit films are not the big banners. Hits have come from gullible corners as not all big budget films managed to make a mark. The films in the first quarter of 2014 to hit the stage hard were:

Queen:

Queen has become the only super hit Hindi film in the first quarter of 2014. Released in theatres on March 7, the Kangna Ranaut starrer collected INR 55 crores at the Indian Box Office in 26 days. In its second week, “Queen” made 215 million, compared with 180 million rupees ($3 million) in its first week, beating a 13-year Bollywood record. “Queen” also netted almost 70 million rupees ($1.17 million) in its third week.

Ragini MMS 2:

“Ragini MMS 2” starring former porn star Sunny Leone has maintained strong position at the box office. Released on March 21, the Sunny Leone starrer collected INR 43.75 crores at the Indian Box Office in 10 days. The film seems to have benefited due to the poor performances of new release.

Jai Ho:

Salman Khan Starrer Jai Ho released on January 24 and managed to do decent business. It created history by grossing over INR 500 crore, though much was expected from the Dabangg star. The collections are not as high as expected, but still the film fared well at domestic box office. The film also earned its production cost of INR 75 crore within its first week.

Gunday:

Gunday is another big hit Hindi film in the first quarter of 2014. The Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer Gunday’ box office collections for the first week were INR 82 crore. It touched the INR 100-crore mark worldwide. Gunday’ box office collections on opening day were INR 16.12 crore followed by INR 12.63 crore and INR 15.18 crore on the weekend.

Yaariyan

Yariyaan:

Yaariyan has turned out to be the first sleeper hit of 2014 with box office collections of INR 37.41 crore in 10 days – the film marks the debut of multiple actors as well as director Divya Khosla Kumar. Yaariyan seems to have fared surprisingly well with box office collections of INR 19.2 crore over the first weekend.

Hasee-Toh-Phasee-Poster

Hasee Toh Phasee:

Released on February 7, Hasee Toh Phasee has become one of the decent grosser in the first quarter of 2014. The Parineeti Chopra, Sidharth Malhotra and Adah Sharma starrer has collected INR 37 crores at the Indian Box Office.
