Bollywood movies that rocked first quarter of 2014

The first quarter of 2014 has seen Bollywood’s 30 movies release. The first quarter of 2013 saw INR 530cr turnover at the box office, while this year, it has been around INR 475cr. The difference is in the fact that the super hit films are not the big banners. Hits have come from gullible corners as not all big budget films managed to make a mark. The films in the first quarter of 2014 to hit the stage hard were:

Queen has become the only super hit Hindi film in the first quarter of 2014. Released in theatres on March 7, the Kangna Ranaut starrer collected INR 55 crores at the Indian Box Office in 26 days. In its second week, “Queen” made 215 million, compared with 180 million rupees ($3 million) in its first week, beating a 13-year Bollywood record. “Queen” also netted almost 70 million rupees ($1.17 million) in its third week.

Ragini MMS 2:

“Ragini MMS 2” starring former porn star Sunny Leone has maintained strong position at the box office. Released on March 21, the Sunny Leone starrer collected INR 43.75 crores at the Indian Box Office in 10 days. The film seems to have benefited due to the poor performances of new release.

Gunday is another big hit Hindi film in the first quarter of 2014. The Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer Gunday’ box office collections for the first week were INR 82 crore.
