Prince Charles’s current wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall announced Sunday that she wouldn’t be attending the memorial service marking the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. Camilla initially accepted the invitation on the request of late princess’s sons, William and Harry but the mounting criticism that her presence would be ‘inappropriate’ forced her to change her mind. Camilla’s announcement came after a poll showed more than half the country believed she should not go to the official commemoration.

One of Diana’s most devoted fans said she was ‘over the moon’ following Camilla’s decision.

Even Diana’s friend, Rosa Monckton, wrote in the Mail on Sunday that Camilla should not attend. She said that Camilla’s presence would be ‘deeply inappropriate,’ and that Diana would have been ‘astonished.’

Princess Diana, known for her charity work and tabloid celebrity, died in a Paris car crash with her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, on Aug. 31, 1997.

Well, the decision not to attend the ceremony comes due to the public poll otherwise she would have definitely attended the memorial service.
