Carrey’s Elephant Stomps U.S. Box Office At No. 1 Spot

The elephant sized debut of Jim Carrey???s latest flick ???Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who??? nudged aside last week???s top grosser, 10,000 B.C. from the top spot with its whopping $45.1 million weekend opening in North America.

The 20th Century release of an animated adaptation of a 1954 popular children???s book Dr. Seuss has Jim Carrey voicing the title character, Horton, a rubbery elephant who stumbles upon a speck which is actually a tiny planet called Whoville.

???Horton??? is Carey???s fourth best opening of all time below 2003???s ???Bruce Almighty??? with $67.95 million and previous Dr. Seuss movie, 2000???s ???How The Grinch Stole Christmas with $55.1 million. It is Carrey???s biggest come back since 2003.

The other top weekend hits are- ???10,000 B.C.??? that slipped to no.2 with $16.4 million; at no 3 spot was another new comer this week, a martial arts film, ???Never Back Down???, which grossed a mild $8.6 million; at no.4 spot, a Martin Lawrence comedy, ???College Road Trip??? cashed $7.9 million; and, at no. 5, a political thriller, ???Vantage Point???, earned $5.4 million.
