Channa Dal Gosht aka Lentil and Meat Curry

bhuna gosht1Monsoons call for pairing vegetables in meats, poultry and fish. The best pairing that I have witnessed in India is called as Channa Dal Gosht or Lentil and meat cuury and it is prepared with bottle gourd, lamb meat and lentils.

The recipe is as follows:

Ingredients

1lb Boneless Mutton
Soaked Yellow Lentils
Large Chunks of Bottle Gourd
Sliced Onions
Ginger Paste
Garlic Paste
Chopped Tomatoes
Turmeric Powder
Chili Powder
Cumin Powder
Coriander Powder
Cinnamon Powder
Cardamom Powder
Nutmeg Powder
Chopped Coriander Leaves
Oil
Salt

Method

1. Fry onions until brown. Add ginger and garlic paste, turmeric, chili, cumin and coriander powder.

2. Add tomatoes and fry the gravy until brown.

3. Add the soaked lentils, salt and meat. Cook stirring continuously until the moisture from the meat dries out.

4. Add Cinnamon Powder, Cardamom Powder and Nutmeg Powder. Blend all the ingredients properly add enough water to cover all.

5. Pressure cook for 20 monutes or until meat and lentil is tender.

6. Finally add bottle gourd and cook covered until the ottle gourd is tender.

7. Garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves. Serve it with rice.
