Classic Brandy Tart: The Apple Pie of Africa

Africa: Cape Verde

a12Whenever I think of African desserts what comes to my mind is rich, sparkling desserts wine paired with luscious cream and fruits. In this post I am going to stick to this idea of a seductive dessert and give you the South African Classic Brandy Tart. Brandy Tart gives you a bouquet of fruity and syrupy flavor, topped with generous cream and pecans. This dessert is extremely simple to make and amazingly delicious:

1. For the tart you need to begin with the basics of sifting dry ingredients like 1-1/4 cups flour, a pinch of salt and half teaspoon of baking powder. Cream 100g butter, 1 cup of sugar and one egg.
2. You need to soak stoned and diced dates in boiling water, and alternate the addition of dry ingredients and dates mixture.
3. Pour this batter into a greased tin and bake it in a preheated oven for 45 mins.
4. Now you got to beat the brandy over the tart. So make sugar syrup first by boiling 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup water 1 tablespoon butter. Next is the addition of 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup brandy.
5. Pour this sauce over the hot cake and cut the tart into equal pieces once it is cool.

Well, now you might have got a hang of the title as to why I called brandy tart as the Apple Pie of Africa…South African presents this sophistication in a date cake.
