Not on Our Watch ??? a humanitarian organization co-founded by Hollywood bigwigs including George Cooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon ??? has donated $500,000 to United Nations World Food Program to help continue its operations in Darfur. The U.N. agency will use this bit of Hollywood generosity to continue its flights: something that???s critical to fighting hunger in the troubled region. The donation comes in the wake of a warning by the World Food Program earlier this week that hinted at the necessity of immediate funds to continue flights in Darfur. In a statement Clooney said:

This is a critical time for the program. Without immediate additional funding, humanitarian aid in the region will be crippled.

The war-ravaged African region has seen a huge influx of refugees, and the numbers will only go up as the rains approach. It is great that Hollywood has banded together and tried to make some difference. Already Not on Our Watch has raised more than 9.3 millions for Darfur. As for Clooney, he takes a keen interest in Africa as illustrated by a documentary that he filmed last year about the crisis in Sudan. Now that???s a heart of gold!
