Comedian Ed McMahon dies at 86

Ed McMahon, the famous comedian and Johnny Carson’s loyal sidekick on The Tonight Show, has died at the age of 86. As per reports, he was not keeping well for the past few months and succumbed to ill health at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles today morning.

According to his publicist Howard Bragman, the former “Tonight Show” announcer passed away at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in California this morning.

Earlier this year, McMahon was in and out of the hospital for pneumonia and other medical issues, according to sources close to him. While Bragman (McMahon’s publicist) did not give a cause of death, he said McMahon had “a multitude of health problems the last few months.”


McMahon started his career on television playing a circus clown on the 1950-51 variety series Big Top and went on to become one of the most cherished faces on TV. He enjoyed a very strong bond with comedian Johnny Carson and served as his sidekick on his show for nearly three decades. Besides appearing on various TV shows, McMahon also had supporting roles in several movies, including The Incident (1967), Fun With Dick and Jane (1977), Full Moon High (1981), Butterfly (1982) and Just Write (1997).

His death is a great loss to the entertainment industry and he will always be remembered for his vibrant and lively performances, especially for his famous catchphrase “Heeeeeere’s Johnny,” which he yelled every night when Johnny Carson took the stage.

McMahon is survived by his wife Pam Hurn and children Claudia, Katherine, Linda, Jeffrey and Lex.
