Young people seem to think that they can take advantage of older folk, and they often do, but never underestimate the strength and feistiness of a senior citizen. Plenty of them can fend for themselves, and in one case a 75-year-old granny was actually able to fend off a would-be-robber at a convenience store in Boston, with of all things a price scanner. I saw it on the news tonight and was amazed at her tenacity,as were the police. Caught on the CCTV scanner, she actually chased him out the door, after persistently hitting him with the scanner. It happened at 1 a.m. at a 7-11 convenience store where she had been chatting with the manager. She went on the offensive when the robber started struggling with the manager behind the counter.
Apparently the robber was found and arrested.
Then there’s the fight that erupts between a 67-year-old white man and a younger black guy. It was caught on video by a young Art Institute of San Francisco student as they were riding the bus in Oakland, California. The YouTube video of the confrontation has gone viral, with over 34,000 hits. It’s not evident how the argument starts, since the tape begins mid conversation, but there are racial overtones. What we see starts off with the old man asking the younger black man how much he charges for a shoe shine, not a nice thing to ask, but we don’t know what was said beforehand. The younger man starts baiting the older guy who eventually moves to the front of the bus. He follows the old man, who then threatens to kick his posterior. We then see the young guy take aim for the older man, who jumps up and fights back. The old guy wins. It’s actually quite comical. And the comments on YouTube might seem racist, but remember many of them are comments by black folk saying the black guy had it coming.
The moral of the stories: don’t mess with old folk.
