Former WWE superstar and ex-champion Umaga (real name Edward Fatu) has died of a heart attack at his Houston, Texas home on Thursday night. He was 36. Apart from WWE, the Samoan-American wrestler was also a big name with TNA (Total Nonstop Action) and All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Contact Music reports,

The ex-World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion passed away at his Houston, Texas home on Thursday night (03Dec09) after suffering a heart attack, according to his devastated family.

A statement from the WWE says, “WWE would like to express its deepest condolences to Mr Fatu’s family, friends and fans on his tragic passing. “Mr Fatu was under contract with WWE at various time periods and most recently performed under the name Umaga. Mr Fatu’s contract was terminated on June 11, 2009.”

It’s a great loss for the pro-wrestling world. Though not a big fan of the Samoan Bulldozer, I must admit that I used to savor the moments whenever Umaga unleashed his signature move – the Samoan Spike – on his opponents. Umaga was a colorful star who will always be remembered by wrestling fans all over the world.

R.I.P. Umaga.
