Founder of Los Zetas, “The Hummer”, Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison

A Federal District Judge in the State of Mexico sentenced Jaime González Durán, alias the ‘Hummer’, one of the principal leaders and founders of the criminal organization ‘The Zetas’ to 16.5 years in prison .

The Attorney General of the Republic ( PGR ) reported that it has also imposed a fine of three thousand 150 days of minimum wage for the crimes of operations with funds of illicit origin and carrying firearms for exclusive use of the Armed Forces.

In a statement the agency said that this is the first sentence that is being imposed on the ‘Hummer’, who remains subject to prosecution for the crimes of organized crime and crimes against health, or drug trafficking, in other criminal cases.

According to research, this person was arrested by elements of the Federal Police on November 7, 2008 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas , in possession of 150 thousand U.S. dollars.

Durán González served as escort for the Gulf Cartel kingpin, Osiel Cardenas Guillen, and was considered one of the principal founding contributors of the Zetas along with Heriberto Lazcano, “The Lazca”, identified as the main leader of the Zetas.

At the time of his capture, Durán González controlled the operations of this criminal group in Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Michoacán, Hidalgo, the state of Mexico, the Federal District, Tabasco and Quintana Roo, among others.
