France One Step Closer To Banning The Burqa – To Include Ultra Rich As Well

Not to be outdone by the Belgiums, the French also voted unanimously to ban the burqa in public places. Actually, it’s a resolution which will pave the way to the outright ban. This means that the socialist party and Sarkozy’s right-wing UMP party actually agreed on something. But not to make ‘poor’ Muslim women who wear burqas feel slighted, the French have vowed to also target the very wealthy Muslim women who also happen to have ignorant husbands who force them to wear burqas because they don’t want people looking at their wives faces.

According to an article on the UK Daily Mail online, these ultra-wealthy women actually like to shop in all the shishsi, upscale shops decked out in their black burqas.

But, as in London, some of the most high-profile women who cover their faces in public belong to women from fabulously wealthy families from the Gulf.

They are often seen in the designer stores around Paris’s Champs-Elysee and Avenue Montaigne, often paying hundreds of thousands for goods in cash.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars? On what? Does this mean they walk around overly made up, in some fancy Chanel mini-skirt sporting some fancy, expensive perfume underneath all that blackness? If they are so into modesty, wouldn’t one think they’d be modest all around and shop at the equivalent to a Walmart? And wouldn’t it be better for them to donate some of those thousands they spend on God knows what in those boutiques to some of their poverty stricken sisters in Islam who live in the ‘ housing estates’? Nah, guess not.

The parliament, and most westerners with a conscience, believe that burqas and niqabs (that hide a woman’s identity) are ‘an affront to the nation’s values’. That goes for any nation.

The declaration released by the National Assembly states that: ‘Radical practices which violate the dignity and equality between men and women, such as the wearing of the full veil, are contrary to the values of the French Republic.’

It adds that Parliament ‘considers it necessary to put all appropriate measures in place to ensure the protection of women who are subjected to violence and pressure, and in particular are forced to wear the full veil.’

Today’s National Assembly declaration precedes a full parliamentary debate in July, with legislation expected later in the year to ban the burka completely

Bernard Accoyer, the French parliamentary speaker, said: ‘The whole of France will say no to the full veil and will ask that this practice be prohibited on the territory of the republic. It is an important measure.’.

As expected, the threats of racial tensions have already started, and with such a large population of Muslims in France (one of the largest in Europe) there is a major possibility. Who can forget the riots in the past? People who oppose the ban are worried about stigmatising and marginalizing the poor Muslim women who wear them, that’s why the wealthy ones as well will be fined. And it’s the men who will be faced with the heftier amount. If they force their women to wear the burqa they will face one year in jail and up to £14,000 fine. The women, on the other hand, will only have to pay £100, since it is assumed they are “often victims with no choice in the matter.”

A source from Mr Sarkozy’s ruling UMP party said: ‘It is not just poor women who are victims, but also rich women from the Gulf and Middle East. We will be targeting them just as much as much as their counterparts from the estates.’ Details of the tough penalties that would be enforced under a French burka ban have already been reported by Le Figaro newspaper. The law would create a new offence of ‘incitement to cover the face for reasons of gender’, the paper said.

And it would state: ‘No-one may wear in public places clothes that are aimed at hiding the face.’ Women would not be ‘unveiled’ in the street but instead taken to a police station to be formally identified, the draft law states.

No-one is asking these women to run around naked in the streets, or even in a tank top and mini-skirt. No-one is banning the veil or other modest Islamic clothing. But there is no reason, even in Islamic teachings, that says a woman should cover every inch of her body, including the face. The burqa is merely a means of controlling and oppressing women, by controlling and abusive males, and if any woman claims she truly wants to wear the burqa is either a liar or an ignorant fool. If the man gets a kick out of watching his wife in a black sack cloth, then let him gethis kicks at home.
