Freshness to ‘up’ sales of Omega3 fish oils

Food Ingredients manufacturer reports about the increase in the functionality of Omega3 rich fish oils by maintaining its freshness. Xalar fish oil made at Norway is quite near to the place where fish is harvested and that allows the fish oil to stay fresh.

To quote Erik Laerdal, sales and marketing manager at Marine Harvest:

Given that our salmon oil is produced next to where the fish is harvested, the oil is produced within hours of the fish being killed. For functional foods, freshness is of utmost importance – you do lose shelf life and face an added risk of rancidity if you use an inferior oil.

The future of this oil is bright as Xalar targets North America as the US market is driving towards functional foods markets. With the Omega3 trend on its hike a highly functional Omega3 oil can be added in its freshest stage to various food products through the reported micro encapsulation and emulsion technology.
