Fusion in Creamy Sago Dumplings

Oceania: Papua New Guinea

saksakHey that is a whole variety of desserts I have in my series with sago and this time it constitutes the main ingredient in Saksak, a Papua Guinea Dumpling made of sago and bananas. This dessert is eaten after lunch and dinner and is a favorite of the people residing in the coastal belt. To make this dessert you just have to mash sago and bananas in the ratio of 6:4. This mixture is wrapped in banana leaves cut into rectangular pieces and then left in a boiling pot of water. After 20 minutes these dumplings are to be unwrapped and immersed in creamy coconut milk and further boiled for 20 minutes. In case there are no banana leaves you can substitute it with aluminum foil.

You can try Saksak easily at home and prepare a quick dessert with it and even add a bit of your creativity to make the dessert yummier…Papua New Guineans love their sago simple. The recipe is quite ethnic, but the fusion is integral to the ingredients used in the dumplings, with coconut milk and bananas…quite tropical eh?
