Gene Simmons: Kiss is bigger than Mickey Mouse

Gene Simmons believes his band Kiss is more famous than Mickey Mouse. In a recent interview, the 60-year-old bassist goes on to claim that Kiss is the most famous and instantly recognizable band of all-time and the band’s image and merchandising are more successful than any other group in the world.

The Daily Telegraph quotes the tongue-waggling bass-player as saying,

You don’t know how big the image is. By some experts, it is believed to be the most recognised pop culture image on Earth – even above Mickey Mouse. You know, there’s no U2 comic book, there’s no Mick Jagger action figure. We have our own Visa card. You can go into Wal-Mart and get sweets with our faces on. We have a Dr Pepper soft drink campaign now. It’s unbelievable!

I’m comfortable with all of your rants, Mr. Gene Simmons, except that Mickey Mouse bit. You might be having your own Visa card and blah, blah…, but Mickey Mouse’s whiskers are more famous than your mile-long tongue. Just compare the length of wiki pages of both Kiss and Mickey Mouse, and you’ll get a fair idea about Mickey’s popularity. Mickey Mouse is more popular than Kiss and Gene Simmons put together. You are trembling at 60, while Mickey’s still going strong at 81!

Mickey’s image is so widespread that he has achieved the status of myth. Can you guess what Mickey Mouse would say if he reads your rants? Kiss my a$$!
