Ingredients that you need
- 3 eggs
- A tablespoon of sugar
- 8 slices of challah bread
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup half and half ( a readymade mixture of whole milk and light cream)
- Salt to taste
- For toppings you can use either parmesan cheese, roasted ham or chicken or sautéed veggies
Preparing the French toast
Pour half-and-half in a big bowl and add eggs, salt and sugar to it. Whisk the mixture well, till the mixture becomes consistent. Place a large pan on the stove and set it over medium heat. Put 1-tablespoon butter in the pan, as the butter heats. Tilt the pan and spread it over the entire inside of the pan.
Transfer the whisked mixture in a cake pan and place four slices of bread in the liquid. Allow it to soak in the liquid for a minute or two, then flip the side and let it soak for the same amount of time. Take one slice of the bread and let the excess liquid drip off it in the cake pan, now place the slice in the frying pan. If the frying pan is large enough place four slices on it or start with two if it is smaller in diameter. Soak the reaming slices of bread in the liquid.
Check underneath the slices of bread on the pan whether they have browned, turn the sides accordingly and prevent them from burning. When done, transfer them to a platter, add the preferred toppings, and serve. Before you start with the second batch, remove the frying pan from the heat and wipe it off. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to it and repeat the above process.
