In News Always- Digvijaya Singh

It seems that Digvijaya Singh has the habit of being heard always. Known for landing his party in tough spot, given his habit for controversial statements, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has once again raised up a debatable topic.

The Congress general secretary has questioned the assumption of the party that the dual leadership model was working well. He pointed out the fact that Sonia Gandhi was the only true leader of the party and that her words held the final worth when it came to government policies.

He raised the issue in reference to the assumption that having a twin power model in form of Sonia Gandhi as the party chief and Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister has given rise to an atmosphere of uncertainty.

This raises question on the official policy of the Congress government that ideal equation existed between Sonia and Manmohan and that such an arrangement could lead to the party winning elections in future too.

The question on this dual mode of leadership came to observation when a reporter asked Digvijaya Singh about Rahul’s future and if he would be the Prime Minister in the next UPA government. Digvijaya pointed out that though Rahul would be the only choice for the position of Prime Minister, it would be better if priorities are set right within the party on who is to lead it for the future.

He however pointed out that though Sonia Gandhi has never intervened directly in the functioning of the government, it would be better if things are set straight and the top leadership of the party has a common vision.

This fresh utterance by Digvijaya Singh is set to revive the war of words within the party and give a platform to those leaders who do not waste a moment in showering praises on Rahul Gandhi. The party on its part had earlier too rubbished the General `Secretary’s remarks on the same topic. Digvijaya Singh loves to be in news and this fresh salvo that he has fired has been done with this very intention only.

The opponents of Digvijaya Singh in the party are quick to ignore the claims as has happened in past too. Last time also when Digvijaya Singh raised this controversial topic, leaders in the party had pointed out to the fact that these were the personal assumptions of the general secretary and that party had nothing to do with the same.

Infact, Janardan Dwivedi, another general secretary had pointed out the last time around that the dual power model in Congress was a reality and the same would continue in future too. The Prime Minister too had dismissed the idea as futile and   had infact blamed media for creating rubble.

However, time and again the public statements being made by Digvijaya Singh is bound to create problems for the party. Digvijaya Singh is too looking for some political space within the party and these utterances by him can be seen as a way of being in public notice too.
